Mustafa O. Kasimcan

Mustafa O. Kasimcan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. (Turkiye) is a highly experienced neurosurgeon with a distinguished career spanning over two decades.

He completed his neurosurgery residency in 2006 at Ankara Atatürk Research Hospital, where he managed over 1,500 surgical cases and contributed to 27 clinical trials.

In 2009, he further specialized in micro-neurosurgery at Hacettepe University in Ankara, Turkey, focusing on advanced procedures such as vascular anastomosis and spinal trauma management, alongside conducting experimental research on toxicity and hypoxia in rodent models. In 2011, Dr. Kasimcan pursued specialized training at the Catholic University of Korea Spine Center and Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital in South Korea. His work primarily focused on complex spinal disorders, degenerative spinal conditions, and spinal trauma, utilizing O-arm and Neuronavigation technologies. In 2018, he completed advanced training at the Medical University of Vienna in Austria, where he specialized in white matter tract anatomy and its correlation with DTI-tractography. During this period, he gained extensive experience in fMRI-guided complex brain tumor surgeries and performed Na-fluorescein-guided procedures for brain and spinal cord tumors, as well as vascular lesions. Dr. Kasimcan later served as the Clinical Head of the Department of Neurosurgery at Istanbul Istinye University Faculty of Medicine.

Under his leadership, his team specialized in brain tumors, cerebrovascular diseases, spinal disorders, and pain management, successfully performing 225 cases in a single year.

Since 2021, he has been part of the Interventional Radiology Group based in Virginia, contributing to medical research through data collection, classification for academic publications, and the development of anatomical illustrations. Driven by a commitment to patient-centered care, he expanded his expertise by earning a degree from Virginia University of Integrative Medicine (LAc, Dipl.Ac. (NCCAOM)). As part of his studies, he participated in research exploring the positive effects of Qi Gong exercises on health and well-being. Dr. Kasimcan integrates his extensive neuroanatomical and neurosurgical knowledge with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to provide holistic pain management and wellness solutions. Believing that each patient’s needs are unique, he develops personalized treatment protocols based on the principle that healing requires addressing the whole person rather than just the disease.

As Hippocrates said, “It is more important to know which patient has the disease than to know which disease the patient has.” In short, there is no disease, there is patient. Traditional Chinese Medicine supports this philosophy by emphasizing the body’s overall balance and function In his practice, Dr. Kasimcan employs a combination of TCM techniques, including acupuncture, Gua Sha, electrostimulation, moxibustion, cupping, and bloodletting therapies, offering a comprehensive approach to pain management and overall wellness.

Beyond his medical practice, he enjoys woodcarving, drawing, and long walks in nature with family and friends. He especially values large family gatherings and picnics, believing that goodness grows when shared.
